Hike to Uthuwankanda and Bathalegala: part 2

Image
Continuing from  Hike to Uthuwankanda and Bathalegala- part 1 We came back to Mawanella town, had our lunch and luckily after getting some directions, we could catch the bus to Bathalegala junction when it was just about to leave. There was only one bus for a few hours on that route, otherwise, you had to get off at Gevilipitiya junction and travel 4 km to Bathalegala junction, which we had to do after returning. From the Bathalegala junction, it was 2.5km to the trail head. It was a small, concrete paved way and starting from the junction, it was one continuous climb. The concrete paved way A glimpse at our destination Bathalegala, also known as Bible Rock, is 798m in height above mean sea level and it's way taller than Uthuwankanda, which is less than 400m in height. It had been rainy and overcast since the time we descended Uthuwankanda, but as we climbed, we ...

Hike to Uthuwankanda and Bathalegala: part 1

Image
After the off-season journey to Sri Pada  this is our next hike, climbing Uthuwankanda and Bathalegala (aka Bible Rock). Our first destination, Uthuwankanda: this is famous for a hide-out used by a local hero named Deekirikevage Saradiel better known as Utuwankande Sura Saradiel who fought bravely against British colonialism. Actually, our destination was Saradiel Rock, located in the Uthuwankanda area. So it was 7 in the morning when we got off the bus at Mawanella with a crew of three, had our breakfast and hired a three wheeler to Uthuwankanda junction (1.5km from Mawanella), turning right at the junction to Uthuwam Mawatha. It is possible to travel in a vehicle along this road to get closer to the destination, but since we needed to see the surroundings, we started our journey on foot from the junction. After about 1 km turned left onto a concrete paved road that was heading toward Saradiel Rock and about 500m ahead, we found the trail head. The trail was through a s...

Off-season Journey to Sri Pada(අවාරයේ දෙදිනක ශ්‍රීපා ගමන)

Image
Amidst strikes, out of bound universities me and my friends, at home spending not-so-enjoyable free time with fading future hopes :'( We decided to free ourselves by doing what we love most-exploring and hiking. So here it is, our first hike, a two-day off-season journey to Sri Pada aka Adam's Peak. There are 6 routes to reach Sri Pada. Among them, the most popular route and of course, the easiest and probably the one that I hate most, is the Hatton-Nallathanni trail which has now become a 99 percent concrete paved short way. Since we sought some adventure, we chose the Erathna-Kuruwita trail. More than 80 percent of the journey through this trail is through dense, undisturbed forest and if you want to stay close to nature while you travel, this is one of the best. It was almost 6 in the morning when we got off the bus (route no. 99 Badulla-Colombo) at Kuruwita with a crew of f...

The Long Awaited Second Year Batch Trip to Hanthana

Image
Aah...! I'm back at my blog for the first time in 2012.. wow! what should I say?  :O  Once again I proved to myself to be a genius at doing LONG-WAY-BACKS. Really for the last few months It was like I was suffering from Amnesia . I had almost forgotten about the blog, but thanks to our second year batch trip I was cured :-) So just like our first year batch trip, this was also a hike. Our journey started from the uni of Pera after having listened to both presidents of the students' union and the explorers' club and blah blah blah (most of us considered the speeches were more like something close to greasy liquid fatty stuff 8-) ) it was about 11.00am when we started our journey. Actually something important was done before starting the hike which we hadn't done last time. Some of us were separated into two groups as head and tail of the hike and were assigned specific tasks. I became one of the tail guys. We were supposed to maintain our formation till the end ...

My thoughts into free style

My blog, the place I visit for the off season Busy-ness with the uni-life would be the reason My thoughts into free style, kinda weird ? Just could't find one more neared...                                                           So So.... All that glitters is not gold; they say Shakespeare may not have thought this way Please be more logical; Dr. Ramasinghe says "There exists no gold s.t. gold glitters" So there exists no gold; the conclusion Math-analysis and literature; the collision This may be not the right thing for someone And we are on the same ride, that someone plus me  Math freaks, math geeks and Phds, i hate'em all :D Tryna work our minds to the extremes :@ I'm gonna finish this once and for all :( And let my mind float freely in the spaces :) UoC life beginning to feel great Hope...

Amid the 'Back on track' process :D

Wow! again, a long way back to where it all started, where I got a little time off. So it has been almost a month since my so-called vacation started after the university exams and since then, simply said, I've been busy as hell. A thousand things happened that I was not expecting, thousand things remain to be done that I was hoping to do on my vacation. Still, my vacation is not a vacation anymore and the rest isn't going to be either. lol this just reminded me of what I told one of my friends. To this day, most of my vacation was spent at the university and I'm pretty sure there won't be any change for the remaining 17 days. So first and foremost, I could break my own world record -wake up at 3.30 in the morning...yah! Then the happiest of all time was that I could start my daily practices again. Next got an opportunity to be a member of KSN, a research team based on Linux systems and open source development currently named as Knowledge Sharing Network which is headed...

A word before the Final Exam paper-Algebra

Again a long way back exactly after 42 days here I am blogging in the middle of university exams. So far the exams were similar to an inverse of an exponential function (exp(-x)) for me and hopefully I know that there won't be any miracles happening to change that function into a exp(x^2) since algebra is next.  So yesterday was the matrices, started the day with a little bit of confidence but within one minute that confidence turned into a disaster. The biggest problem we had writing the matrices past papers was the time management, it was almost impossible to complete a paper within 2 hours even if you could solve all the problems except for a math-headed-big-brainer.  But the funniest thing was a  below average guy like me ending up answering all questions in the matrices paper with 10 minutes on the clock to go. So while checking some of the MCQs again(can't help :D :D @ myself) the 10 minutes passed. Exam was done. Right behind me was Ashan('...

My thoughts into a java poetry........

My thoughts, definitely not public My deeds, of course they're private My views, they must be protected But my death, is all set by default My brain's got to implement Runnable The thing is my memory's not Rewritable Got to hurry and extend Serializable and rather make it more Comparable My parent class is worrying too much The inheritance i would probably mess up May be I should override the ancient methods But on second thought, i'm gonna reinvent the wheels Me, myself is setVisible(true) While my main method's on EventQueue Damn! these so called Exceptions Null-pointers, runtime's never been so relentless

First Year Batch Trip to Haagala Mountains - part 1

Image
This is the start of our journey; a hike , to be precise, Forgive me for not having any group photos of almost 300 crowd batch trip because we were the few of the first to go (i was the first) and on the half way my freaking K800i phone battery got dead and could't capture almost all the enjoyable moments. Any way have a look at some of the photos of which a journey i would not forget for my entire life. The hike was supposed to be a great challenge for the bookworms who always used to hang around the 'Apaaya' ; i.e. the 'HELL' = library of faculty of science and of course for some girls(I really must admire the girls who could make their journey to the top without any help while some guys had already  quit-ted  ).  Among the rest of the batch who couldn't participate there were some participating in inter-university games, I must appreciate their commitment for the university, thanks to them and others who took part, we remain as the overall champio...
